In the Bible there are frequent references to the power of God’s word. Just focusing on a few of these can be valuable encouragement for helping us understand that God and His word cannot only get us through anything and everything this world throws at us, but God and His word can safely carry us through into eternity (1 Peter 1:23-25; Matthew 24:35).
God’s word is like a Sword (Ephesians 6:17; Hebrews 4:12). It cuts through lies, confusion and subterfuge to help us see the reality of His truth.
God’s word is like a Fire (Jeremiah 23:29; 20:9). It refines and purifies us.
God’s word is like a Hammer (Jeremiah 23:29). It is capable of breaking hard hearts and shaping our character.
God’s word is like a Lamp / Light (Psalm 119:105). It illuminates, enlightens and guides our path.
God’s word is like Food. For example, Scripture is likened to bread, milk, honey and meat (Psalm 19:10; Matthew 4:4; Hebrews 5:1-14; 1 Peter 2:2). God’s word feeds and nourishes our souls!
God’s word is like Seed (James 1:18-21; 1 Peter 1:23). It is capable of multiplying, growing and developing in the “soil” of our hearts.
God’s word is like a Mirror (James 1:22). It allows us to see ourselves as we really are – as God Himself sees is.
God’s word is like Gold (Psalm 19:7-10). Indeed it’s more precious than gold in how it enriches our lives.
God’s word is like Rain, Snow and Water (Isaiah 55:10-11; John 15:3, Ephesians 5:26). It cleans and refreshes.
God’s word is like an Anchor (Hebrews 6:18-19). It gives us security during turbulent times. Wow! What power! Wow, what a great book!
